Another New Pharmacy in London
In May of this year I wrote that, “A new pharmacy being approved in London is a fairly rare thing as the nation’s capital tends to be over supplied with pharmacies” after we received approval for our client to open a new pharmacy at Harford Health Centre. In fact our client had two pharmacies, both operating under the old LPS contracts that were granted at the time of the Olympic Games being held in London and which were due to end in 2025. The second pharmacy was located at St Andrew’s Health Centre. In this case we were again able to secure a new NHS contract for our client be relying on the Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment and this means that both our client’s pharmacis can remain in place.

Many Health and Wellbeing Boards do not understand either their powers, or obligations, relating to identifying a need for additional pharmacy services. Some of these Boards will publish documents that complain about the closure of pharmacies within their areas without understanding that they also have the power to do something about the closures and lack of access to pharmacy services. Thankfully in this case we were able to work with all stakeholders and the future of our client’s pharmacy is now secured.
